It increases GDP, but population and housing growth can't substitute for real industries, productivity and manufacturing that we're losing. Our population growth is outstripping jobs growth, and we then face dis-economies of scale - and prices for infrastructure blows out of proportion! With large coal reserves in Victoria, and LNG production booming, we don't have a lack of carbon-energy sources, but heavy infrastructure costs - the "poles and wires" that must keep being overloaded and extended for our massive population growth.
